My name is Stu McGregor and I’ve recently moved back into the I.T. and Design fields having had a sojourn as a pastor and student of theology.
I’ve been using computers since 1982 when I bought a ZX81! Since then I've been a user (like drugs but also not at all :) ). I’ve used computers in CAD while studying engineering, taught CAD and laid out manuals for the School of Engineering at AUT (nee ATI). I grew up using the PC, through all iterations of Windows since windows Version 2 and have also dabbled with limited programming.
I then moved into the Technical side of Graphic Design as a Mac Operator and became a senior Mac operator for some of the leading Pre-press houses in Auckland. Towards the end of my time in that field I began to evolve into an IT administrator. Back then we were running a Windows NT server to serve to around 15 Macs, plus 3 or 4 RIPS to run the imagesetters.
Over the years I have unashamedly moved away from PC's though I still have to encounter them from time to time. I'm now a solid Mac and Linux fan.
Because I’m not driven by hardware sales to support myself, nor am I connected to any particular vendor, I want to see Schools and other organisations maximise their current I.T. infrastructure at a minimal cost. As this will be my primary focus I will also be able to offer comprehensive support.
As of 2010 I have agreed to subcontract to NSKI to offer IT services to more schools and I'm very excited about the prospect!
I will also continue to do medium level Graphic Design and Mac Operating.
Theologically speaking . . .
I’m trying to make sense of this life; this moment; this pathway. I see that there are lots of questions in this world to do with faith.
There are many people who make the claim that they know God. I’m not so sure really if that’s a claim I could ever make. That I know something about him/her, well that’s something I can humbly suggest, but whether I am right or not about my percepetions, well I really rely on a community of faith to help me with that. Christ, as experienced in scripture and in life, is the best we'll ever make out though.
I’m happy to keep trying. I’m happier trying than not trying and I believe with all my heart that journeying with this goal in mind creates an paradigm for life that is like a precious pearl and that it is worth the cost of everything that I am, have and care about (though admittedly it doesn’t seem that way at times).
I’m a husband and a dad with two delightful kids. And that in itself is an adventure of epic proportions!.
